The Corporate Justice Coalition would like to share the recent advances, actions, press releases and briefings related to due diligence initiatives in the UK:
- Petition: Stop corporate abuse, protect our rights – We need a new law to hold business and the public sector to account when they fail to prevent supply chain human rights abuses and environmental harms. Sign the petition to tell MPs to stop corporate human rights abuses and environmental destruction.
- Polling: YouGov polling shows that four in five adults in the UK support new laws requiring companies to prevent serious environmental harm and human rights abuses in their operations or supply chains. The press release with the polling results can be found on our website here.
- Business and investor statement: Over 150 businesses & investors call on the UK Government to create ambitious human rights and environmental due diligence legislation. The statement has been published on the BHRRC website.
- Briefing on climate and the environment: This briefing is available on our website.
- Baroness Young’s Private Member’s Bill: The Bill had its second reading in the House of Lords on 10 May. See here for further details. Unfortunately, the Bill was killed with the closing of the Parliamentary session. However, it shows that there is strong momentum to bring such legislation forward.
